NHL Futures : The Menu

The specials of the day are three fold.  All paying off +300 are the following teams.  Chicago, Dallas, and LA.  These prices are intended to bring a balance in the wagering.  One does not want slanted action on one team but an even distribution so that some can win while others do not.  So what are two key items that get buried in the mind’s of the sports fan that comes forth in the playoffs?

Factors

First is how recent have they hoisted the Cup?  Might be a regular season warrior but people default to those that make it all the way to hoist Stanley in the air at the end.  This is the case with both the Kings and Blackhawks.  LA has two championships in six years.  Dynasty is the word that is associated with Chicago these years as they have three cups in the same time span.  Combine this with the markets they are located in.  Natives and even those that are transplanted bet their home teams.  The populations and markets (especially Chicago) means that one has to combat the lemmings.  It does not mean that it is not a good future but they will bet it at any price.  This goes a long way in setting the bar.

Western Conference action is set to start off on Wednesday with Chicago at St. Louis.  Good fortune in your handicapping thought process.  DO not forget to get in those NHL futures today. We will see you later on here at the HRW.

MLB Tips 4/12

HRWager’s MLB Tips tries to ascertain if the bullpen meltdown is going to be limited to San Fransisco!  Dodgers have their home opener on 4/12 at 4PM EST and host the 2-5 Diamondbacks.  To add to the anticipation is that the Dodger Blue get to see the newest addition to the fold.  They paid $20 million for Kenta Maeda to cross the ocean.  Find out how he did in his first start and what the price is for this game here on the HRW.

MLB Tips : Arizona Fade

Bad spot for the Diamondbacks and this is a major component of the -160 Dodges ML.   Zona is 3-15 in LA as of late.  Corbin in particular has been pathetic against them.  Losing his last three with an era approaching nine.  His form going into this one is a mixed bag.  Gave up zero walks with six stirkeouts for your positive mindsets.  Alas three mistakes were crushed out of the yard in his last loss.  Lots of reasons to not embrace Arizona.

Does This Make LA a ML or RL?

Now onto the Dodgers.  Solid outings except for one glaring flaw.  The bullpen imploded twice against San Fransisco.  Even when LA stormed out to a 5-0 1/2 inning lead, Kazmir and then the pen gave it all back and more to lose against the Giants.  Also somewhat worrisome is the lack of pop off the bat.  Three home runs as a team does not induce fear into the opponents.  Until they can show that they can drive the ball, blowout wins might be beyond them.

This is one of the exceptions to April baseball wagering.  Usually it is underdog wagering or RL on favorites.  NL teams that struggle to get runs is the moneyline exception.  Arizona is not going to put up much fight in this first game with Maeda starting.  By the same token, Dodgers can not score a ton.  Usually this would result in the under but Opening Day inflates totals.  HRWager’s MLB Free Pick for this one is the Dodgers -160 ML parlayed with another bet. Good fortune and we will see you on Wednesday here at the HRW.
