Hobart Final Free Pick : Bouchard vs Cornet
Bouchard bounces back is the story for our WTA Free pick. The Hobart final down under is the last tune up event before the Aussie open. The blonde and bubbly Canadian has seemingly recovered from concussion syndrome that has kept her out for so long. Her run through this tourney has been good. Now France’s Alize Cornet stands in her way. Eugenie is a -200 favorite to take the title here.
WTA Free Pick : Trouble Ahead

- 2. Did not hold serve once in second set
- 3. Faced Three Seeded Players in a row
This is more anti Bouchard at this point. Great story but for any hope in the Aussie Open, she might have been better off not playing in the final. Great strides personally but she has some much rust on her. Fitness will affect her game. We saw some of it in the semi final. With a player like Cornet, as long as she does not self destruct, Alize does not give a lot of free points. She enjoys being out on the court in long points. This strikes right at the attrition angle for this one.
Generation of Power
Bouchard can handle any level of high power. This was one of the reasons for her rapid ascent to number five a few years ago. Problem is that Cornet is an angle cutter. A soft hitter. Bouchard has to generate power in this one. With Alize breezing through 6-1, 6-1 in the semi’s, she has the energy to run all day. It might be a long match but the frenchwoman has high expectation in this one.
Normal circumstances would have Bouchard as our pick but she has been off sorts for so long that her run ends because of fitness. She is worn down with Alize having fresh legs. +170 is a very good price as Bouchard gets sentimental money here.
