The Home Run Derby is a uniquely American event that celebrates the slugging power of the Major League player.  Good Morning and thank you for checking back in with HRWager. Today we have eight combatants striding into Petco Park to see who can mash the most. Defending champion Todd Frazier is back along with the favored Giancarlo Stanton. Who will take home the title and cash the ticket at the window for us this evening.  Event starts at 8PM EST on ESPN so lets get down to the art of picking the winner for this one.

Home Run Derby : Contestants

Lots of betting options available for this one.  Outright winner of the eight promises a big pay day no matter who you select.  Gaincarlo Stanton is the favorite but he is in the +300 neighborhood.  Mark Trumbo of the Orioles is also a popular pick with a price just a little bit better than his.  For the long shot of the night, look at the left handed batting of Carlos Gonzalez.  He has one of the longest odds to win but he is hitting to the shorter porch right down the line.  With the wind blowing across from third to first, this will also assist him this evening.

Format

Basically it is an eight person single elimination bracket.  Players get a 45 second time out in both the first and second rounds in the midst of four minutes of mashing.  Person that gets the most home runs moves on.  Also, the epic blast factor is rewarded.  Two home runs of over 440 feet in a round triggers a 30 second bonus period added on.  This is how Stanton and his titanic blasts is the favorite in this field.
