Initial First Four Impressions Heading into 3/16
Out on TruTv, the NCAA fired up their First Four. Good Morning and welcome to HRWager. Two games went down on 3/15th with a pair of #16 seeds going at it for the right to fight North Carolina. After the appetizer, the #11 seeded tussle between Vanderbilt and Wichita State saw a 30-30 halftime go horribly wrong in the second half. What happened in these games that we can use for the pair of game’s this evening?
First Four : Linesmakers Were Correct
Favorite status was confirmed as both Florida Gulf Coast and the Shockers of Wichita State easily covered their spreads. Offshore was fortunate that the name recognition of both teams did not have an effect on wagering as Wichita State did not get worse than -4 after an opener of -3. Initial impressions is that FGC played the bully but ws not the potent force that got to the Sweet Sixteen a few years ago with Dunk City. Also, the SEC was the only Power Five that did not get a plethora of picks in the tournament and for good reason. First LSU phones it in their conference tournament, and now the Commodores of Vandy turned a 30-30 halftime lead into a 70-50 rout by an average Wichita State team.
3/16’s Action
Holy Cross has a losing record at 14-19 and yet are just +2 for their game against Southern. Instead, the total has been beaten down from 132 to 128 1/2 by the sharps. Even though Southern likes to run, it behooves them here to slow it down a bit. Holy Cross can not rebound well and this should be a stick in the mud affair. Follow the steam and go under 128 1/2 here.
Meanwhile, Michigan is on display. Big Ten and other major players got the lionshare of at large bids over the mid majors. Now we all get to see how the big boys do against the likes of Tulsa. Wolverines remain constant at the -4 mark here. Michigan did a wonderful job getting here while Tulsa got crushed by Memphis in their conference tourney. Motivation is hard to gauge here but the Golden Flashes get almost all of their scoring from a three guard rotation. Look for the little guys to get going here. Linesmakers get one wrong here so take Tulsa +4 for your 9PM game.
