Cannon fodder comes to mind for Kansas City Detroit with our Free Pick for their 8/17 encounter. Two pitchers that used to have quality stuff. Now they have had to endure a very rough and long 2016. Both teams are sticking with them in a time. Kansas City is starting to warm up with a run back to almost .500. Detroit is close in the AL Central to Cleveland. Kansas City Detroit : Ventura Changing Course
Ventura’s 8-9 with a 4.60 ERA is misleading coming into this one for the Royals. He has made a big rebound from a bad July to have the Royals win his last three starts. Last start against the Twins, he slammed the door over seven innings. Gave up two home runs but limited to results to just three runs. More importantly was that the walks came way down in this one. He has also been a workhorse as of late with over 100 innings pitched in his last four.

This could be why the -135 ML on the Tigers was bet down to -120 early. While Ventura is on the uptick, Texas handled Sanchez like a rag doll in his last start. Detroit’s starter tonight gave up four home runs in just four innings in that one. Pitch location with a high fastball has been his source of woe in 2016. He mowed down the Mets but they are in a legendary offensive slump back then. There is one oddity with this game that is a concern however.
Nine runs was the bar for the total and most of the interest is on the under. With Sanchez letting in runs left and right, this must be an endorsement for Ventura. His stuff is good enough where either a KC ML as an underdog or the under TT on the Tigers are both high expectation wagers.
