MLB Free Pick : Detroit at Miami 4/5
A young home run hitting Miami Marlins is the subject of HRWager’s MLB Free Pick for April 5th. They get to host opening day against the Detroit Tigers. Miami sluggers get to test out whether the declining Verlander fastball has regained any of its former pop. This and a changed dimension of their home stadium has the Marlins stomping at the bit. 7PM start is almost a pickem with the road Tigers costing a little more to invest for the win on Tuesday.
MLB Free Pick : Bring in the Fences
When you have the big bats, it behooves the team to move in the fences. Not only are some of them like center field 11 feet closer, but most of the walls are lower than six feet now. Now they get an aging Justin Verlander of the Tigers to face. Only twenty appearances last year with him going 5-8 with a 3.38 ERA. The coaching staff also got upgraded with them getting Mattingly as head coach from the Dodgers and enlisting the services of home run king Barry Bonds as hitting coach. Exciting times to be a Marlin fan.
Tiger’s Upgrades
Mr. All World Metric Justin Upton is now on the Tigers. He is said to do a lot of the previously unquantifiable very well. Zimmerman defected from the Nationals and give the Tigers a quality arm to replace David Price. Their shortstop as well as Viktor Martinez are dealing with injuries in this one. Not an ideal place to start for the Tigers.
Very young team that can run and gun. Giancarlo is your main bat but their is no shortage of offensive fireworks on Miami. Marcell Ozuna is a very good player. Dee Gordon can challenge any pitcher to hold him to the base. All that speed and he won the NL batting title last year. Chen starts for Miami Tuesday so expect Detroit to get some runs a well. The over at 7 1/2 runs is near +100 and of good value. Miami ML at -105 is where the smart money will be on Tuesday. Young team with all their future ahead of them will roar from the gate on 4/5. Good fortune and we will see you tomorrow here at the HRW.
