MLB Preview : Boston @ Houston 4/23
No easy solution for the home team in HRWager’s MLB Preview of Boston @ Houston. This April 23rd start at 4PM EST frankly has a line that can be exploited in this one. Clay Bucholz takes on Astros’ Mike Fiers. Both have been very leaky this year but one of the two will be on a corrected course in this event. Which way will the winds of profit blow in from to take our ships to valueville this Saturday?
MLB Preview : RISP Problems
Houston is 5-12 and has been an utter April disappointment. First and foremost among their litany of woes has been runners in scoring position. They could not come up with many timely hits this season. Houston can get players on the basepath but conversion is another topic. 1 of 8 in last night’s blowout loss is just the latest in this trend. .171 in the season (RISP) with that 4 for 30 in a sweep by Texas over them. Normally, a pitcher coming in with a near six ERA would be a solution for that but sad for the Astros is that Clay Bucholz is on the road to 2016 redemption.
Bucholz Trending Upward
Hideous states in his last three have seen 8 walks to 11 K’s and a WHIP of 1.60. Ah but the very recent and his history against Houston has a high expectation for him this afternoon. Last time out, he held the Jays scoreless for 6 2/3 scattering six singles. Combine that with a 1.38 ERA against Houston in his four starts and it looks like another long night for Houston. He has even gotten two complete games against them. Yet all of this and the ML on Boston is +108.
How is Houston favored? Mike Fiers has a higher ERA (6.48) in his last three starts. No real walk problems is the only benefit here. Line is off. One could even go -1 1/2 on the Red Sox in the alternate line to pour salt on the wounds of our linesmakers. Play the safe route here. HRWager’s MLB Free Pick of the Day is +108 Boston listed pitchers. Good fortune and we will see you later today here at the HRW.
