MLB Preview : Giants at the Rays 6/17
HRWager’s quest for baseball profit continues with our MLB preview of the Giants (41-26) visiting Tampa Bay (31-33). Unusual situation for the Rays as they are rested on this long home stand (4-2) but have a lot of nagging aches and pains all across the lineup. Meanwhile for the Giants, Samardzija has a decent stat line for the season but going a little bit beyond the surface illuminates some alarming trends for this one. 7PM start on June 17th saw the Giants open as a very slight road underdog but betting has pushed them to the +120 level in this one.
MLB Preview : All About Pitching
Even though the Giants are red hot after sweeping the Brewers, they did not get the respect of the oddsmarkers nor the market against Archer of Tampa Bay. Chris has been a trainwreck this season by his standards. His recent three coming in is reflective of his 4.58ERA for the season. A high WHIP is the product of both too many walks and hitters going above average against him. Counter this with Jeff’s stat line. He is going for his 8th win of the year and sports a mid three ERA for the year. However…
- He is historically sad in inter league play. Close to 5.5 ERA with a 2-8 record.
- Jeff’s recent form is just as bad. Last Three games has a WHIP of 1.77 and an ERA of 7.36.
In essence, both teams can get well offensively here.
Totals
Still standing at 7 1/2 but taking some pounding on the over. Went from +110 all the way to -110 on the overnight. Sharp action has exploited this for good reason. Who you want to monitor here is Evan Longoria. He has been knocking the ball off of the cover but missed Thursday. Monitor his status as a sore left arm might keep him out again tonight.
Giants can create runs. Chris Archer has been out of sorts the entire season. SF poses enough problems that unless he has his top notch stuff that the Giants can troubleshoot runs out of him. Jeff is leaking runs right now with Tampa projected to do well. Steve Pearce and Taylor Motter have been filling in very well up and down the lineup as needed.
Giants as a moneyline dog is of decent value. However, emulate the sharps and tail the over 7 1/2 runs while one can still get it. Good fortune with our free pick and we will see you on Saturday here at HRWager.
