If ever one could get used to adversity, it would have to be these Clippers. Third straight year that something dramatic happened like this to them. Not without their two biggest stars, a -3 opening line on the home team has seen almost exclusively all Portland action to drive the Clippers to +3 for this game. Up to this point, this series has been really steady with the home team winning all four games. The good thing for Clippers fans is that they have a lot of scoring punch still. Distribution will be more of a concern than those who can pour in the points. Look for LA to go big in this game, play defense, and slow down the game.
No More Surprises
When both of the stars went down, the Clippers hung in gamely until the fourth. That last game saw an unlikely hero for Portland in the form of Al-Farouq Aminu whose 30 point and 10 rebound performance was the difference maker. Ironically, it is this new Clippers lineup tonight that will cause him the most concern. Lillard and maybe McCollum wil get their points but with all the bigs on the floor, Aminu is not that fleet a foot to counter the interior height. This is what the betting public also had in mind taking a 199 opening total and crashing it to 196 1/2. Prolonged possession with an unfamiliar focus on defense is what will await us this evening.
One line movement is spot on while the other has gone its course. The under has hit every time this series so far. A drop like this is absolutely correct. Meanwhile, the Clippers +3 is a great price for this game. The shock has worn off and the Clippers have one of the few teams that still do well even after all these injuries.
