Players Championship : Free Picks 5/12
Some call it the fifth major but the Players Championship has most of the top talent in golf to select our winning free picks from. This year’s tournament features the dynamics of TPC Sawgrass. Conquering distance is a key but not the only asset a champion here has to have here. 7,215 yards has most of the par fives within reach of most of the field. So let us look at defending champion Rickie Fowler, other favorites, and a few longshots for profit potential here at HRWager.
Players Championship : Candidate Resume
What do we want to see in the golfers we want to back this weekend?
- Driving Accuracy
- Greens in Regulation
- Scrambling
Odd shape greens adorn the course. This is not your cookie cutter course as it avails itself of Bermuda grasses which makes off fairway adventures a tad more harrowing. A well rounded game is needed. Players like Bubba Watson who do not handle adversity well will usually not succeed here.
Favorites
The aforementioned reasons have made Rory McIlroy the favorite to win here. He has all of the prerequisite skills plus momentum. All top ten finishes in his last three starts here plus he leads the tour in scoring on the par fives. Sergio could surprise and have one last big win in his bag. He has won here in 2008, has good history here, and is troubleshooting well. His top ten in strokes gained tee to green should have you in your head to head wagering sites.
Longer Shots
Two players here will have quite elevated odds for futures to win and Top Three spots. Plus they will have the edge against their peers when pitted against another. Jhonattan Vegas barely got into this tournament but he is one for your H2H money making options. Three top 20’s from tour exemptions, he has been accomplishing this because of his top ten in ball striking and greens in regulation. A definite underdog to rail. The other is David Hearn. He can be magic with the putter and is tied for second in proximity to the hole. He will have learned from his epic collapse of a 78 in the final round.
