Saturday evening brings the UFC and our Fight Night 89 Free Pick. For Friday’s edition of this article, we are going to examine the ramifications of a 125 pound weight class for the women. This flyweight division is going to very much benefit one of the fighters on the main event card for June 18th. FoxSports 1 coverage of the upper tier in Ottawa is going to start at 10:30PM. In our sites is the bout between Valerie Letourneau (8-4) and Jojo Calderwood who is 10-1. Find out why fighting in front of the home fans is just one of the reasons why Valerie is the ML favorite in this matchup!
Fight Night 89 Free Pick : New Weight Division
Before the ladies had to opt either for a 115 or 135 max weight for fly and bantam weight divisions. This put athletes like Valerie Letourneau in quite the quandary. At 135, she did not have the muscle mass to be very effective. Yet at the same time, the quest to get her down below the 115 mark was killing her. The cut for weight had her look very shaky at the weigh ins. Look at her pale condition with fingers crossed before her weigh in against Maryna Moroz.
thank you to SportCandy for posting this on Youtube.
Can They Find Enough Women?
This fight will be the test to see if UFC kicks up a gear in recruiting ladies at this in between weight. For the fight ahead, Valerie is the ML favorite near the -180 mark for this one. We will get to see how she can find when her body does not have to go through those punishing cuts for weight. We are optimistic on her fate against Jojo. The key is Calderwood’s short game. Her elbows and knees are more heavy in the power element than most. Valerie could absorb punishment before these cuts and she not be slowed down if exposed to them on a limited basis. Val’s three inch reach advantage will be enough to thwart the advances with some projected new found pop in her fists.
Good fight and moneymaker to get the main card going. -180 ML on a new women’s catchweight is a risky venture just for a standalone bet. Parlay this with another wager to safely avoid paying the chalk in this one. Good luck and we are very much looking forward to seeing if UFC can make a go of it with three ladies weight divisions.
