WTA Eastbourne : Second Round Free Pick and Preview

Third Grand Slam prep is almost done with only WTA Eastbourne left as the tune up for the All England Club.  Good morning tennis fans here at HRWager.  Today, we have some salient points to ponder about the event before Wimbledon.  How will some of the people that have found momentum on the clay adjust to this surface?  Who is coming back from injury?  All of this and more as we embrace the grass court season here at the HRW.

WTA Eastbourne : Caroline Comeback?

Wozniacki’s recovery from an ankle injury will be put to an immediate test against #7 Stosur in the second round.  Samantha is riding high after a French Open semi but grass is her worst surface by far.  Footwork is clunky and the ball bounces the least true for her power game.  For Caronline to make a summer run to get back to the top ten, she needs to both knock the rust off her game and win here.  She is a -165 ML favorite to do so in the eyes of the oddsmaker here.

Head Games

Our favorite two time Wimbledon winner attempts once again to mentally rally for a grass court run.  A quirky player to say the least, she has one of the best games suited for the lawn.  Her quarter contains Roberta Vinci but Petra Kvitova should dispense her in straight sets if her mindset is solid.  Two other ladies that have lagged for much of this season should call Wimbledon a rallying point.  Bencic and Bacisnszky also hope to clamp down on their games here at Eastbourne.

Risky venture we like like Caroline in the second round.  Radwanska is the top seed here but is by no means a gimmie.  Her loss to CoCO Vandeweghe was very disappointing in Birmingham.  Tennis Channel has extensive coverage of this event.  Tune in Tuesday and rail our free pick of Caroline over Stosur to victory.  Good fortune and we will see you later today here at the HRW.
